Origin of wild caught tokays - does anyone know?

tobias79 Aug 13, 2005 11:07 AM

Does anyone know witch country/countries in Southeast Asia have been exporting most tokays to Europe and the U.S.A.?

I think it could be fun to know, witch area within the tokays great range, that our animals in captivity has come from.

All I know is that Thailand is exporting a lot of tokays to Hong Kong. From November 1993 to October 1994 it was 36,000 animals.

That indicates that Thailand is a huge exporter of tokays.
But I dont know if Thailand is also selling a lot of tokays to Europe and U.S.A..

Definitely not. Tokays from Vietnam look very unique, greenish, almost like G. smithii. Todays tokays do come from Indonesoia and Malaysia.
I answered your Q to some more detail at the DGHT forum.
