Not exactly a snake, but...

I still thought that this forum would be the best place to ask about the captive care of the Florida worm lizard (Rhineura floridana). I just ordered one of these interesting amphisbaenians, and it is supposed to arrive on Wednessday. I know a fair amount concerning size, diet and anatomy, as well as the fact that they are strictly fossorial, but has anyone here ever kept one of these animals long-term? What advice do you have on care? Thanks!

I've had mine for almost two years and have been looking for a mate. Where did are you getting yours from? Mine has done well with a mixture of white sand and soil, mostly sand and well drained. Antedotically, people have mentioned a sensitivity to PH. So as a precaution I mixed some calcium carbonate into his soil to raise the PH. The PH of the soil he originated from was high in the alkaline range. They will eat earthworms, mealworms and basically any small soft bodied creature they find Although I've never actually witnessed a feeding.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. Nice to know that other people know how to care for these. I ordered mine from Glades herp. They ship it out tomorrow. It was $25.
