The law for keeping box turtles in my state.IS NO collecting period .ornates are endangerd eastern are protected. The thing is if you pick one up your breaking the law ,but on the other hand if you want to build a road right down the middle of there habitat nobody cares.Indiana recently past more stricter laws you can have box turtles only if acquired before the new laws went into effect. And no male females in the same encloser. If babies are reared you must notify your fish and game.So the can dispose of them as they see fit.Which in my first hand knowledge killing them.Because the new reptile laws also state no animals sha'll be released after 30days incaptivity back into the wild.I would like to know who makes the laws .WHEN there adopted and made effective.the laws in my state before where ,quit effective.before the new ones only4per person per household and no commercial collecting.period,no native to be sold .ican't rememember the last time i seen a eastern box for sale in indiana.I would be the first person to understand rules and regulations if they made since . but overcollecting is not a problem im afield herper for over 25yrs and loss of habitate and predetion is the culprite not collecting.Aleast here in my state. THANKS FOR READING MY POST...... FRED PRYOR
