Fedex Pricing???

sgg12899 Aug 13, 2005 11:40 PM

I have been checking the shipping prices on the fedex rate finder on the net and the shipping prices are so high. I see that some other breeders/dealers are shipping with a flat rate of $35 - $40, they must be getting a discount. I was wondering if anyone knows how they are able to ship at these prices? I'd appreciate any info...
Thanks,
Sharon

I think that Fed Ex uses a "dimensional rate" which requires higher math skills beyond me to work out. I had my friendly local Fed Ex employee point out a box size to use which nearly always comes in within a loud shout of $40 to send door to door. On occasion I have used another size box and have sometimes gotten a rude shock when the bill comes in.

Also, if you ship to be "held for pickup" you can use regular overnight instead of priority overnight as it will be in the same truck to the depot. Priority only comes into play when the packages are being delivered door to door. Again this comes from the Fed Ex clerk and my package tracking investigations bear her out.

Hope this helps!

I have found FedEx to be a lot cheaper than UPS. I only use FedEx due to the many, many problems I have had with UPS.

To get the cheapest rates from FedEx, open an acct with them. It is free and simple to do. Only downfall is that you have to register a credit card to the acct so they can automatically bill you, but I have heard you can request to have bills invoiced to you once you are established shipper. You can open the acct online at fedex.com That gets you registered shipper discount. Then, when you ship, do it all online. Prepare the shipment and print your label at home. I believe that saves you 10%, but not sure. Last word of advice, take the package to FedEx. If they pick it up, it will cost you $4 more.
