not sure if my dumerils gravid?

thunderbird88650 Aug 14, 2005 09:11 AM

I attempted to breed my dumerils for the first time this year, now im pulling my hair out trying to decide if shes having babies or not. I cooled the pair, saw copulation several times over a few weekand period jan/feb, in. The female then went off feed and although food was offered regularily for the first few months refused all of it, very unusual for her, my first positive sign. about 2 months ago i started seeing unusual behavior, laying on her side regularily, part of her body upside down, contotring and tightening of her body, as if pushing something ourt all of this seemed good to me. but, shes never seemed swollen, never gotten noticably fatter. Shes pretty thick already, so i thought maybe it wasnt as obvious. and last week she ate a f/t rat. first food since jan. i dont know what to think, shes definetly mature. 8 yrs. the male age is uncertain but i got him as an adult 2 yrs ago, so hes mature also. am i just impatiant? does this seem normal to anyone else? as i said, all signs seem to sa yes, except no noticable swelling. but not losing any size either, even after not eating for7 months. y thanks in advance for any help.

They are such a bulky boa that guaging pregnancy can be tough. Last year, my 7.5 footer looked very gravid and I kept my fingers crossed longer than I should have. And again this year I was pretty sure, different behavior was noted, ie ovulation swell and heat conservation position. Towards the end she was looking like a flat tire on the sides. Honestly, I was almost a little surprised when she actually did drop.

For your girl, if she's 7 months along that's getting towards the end of a possible pregnancy. The only time my Dumerils do not eat during a pregnancy is at breeding to just after ovulation, and then off feed again at around 2-3 weeks before they have their babies. The best way to decide wheather or not she's gravid is to judge her activity before her pregnancy with how she is acting now... without "wishfull thinking", that's always been a hard one for me. You've sadi she's been laying inverted so I wouldn't give up hope.

The feeding part isnt always true Matt I have one female here(had the stripes) that once bred will not touch food till she drops, shell eat within hours of droping, Ive had other females eat till they were 5 days out and other do like he is saying be speratic, as far as lentgh of time I seperated all my pairs the first wk of Jan, the female that dropped yesterday shed 3 times once in late Feb, first wk of May and third wk of june so its been 7wks since her most recent shed and at this point she isnt going into a shed cycle yet, I got 4 other female all of which I beleive are gravid 3 I am pretty sure that shed within the last 4 days, all smaller ones so we will see what happens with them

to the orig poster you still got time, dums dont show swelling and what not as well as colombians, I normally dont notice my animals laying belly up and on their sides and what not like you discribed unless gravid so it sounds to me like you should have some babies
