Will this temp cause a problem:

shadowmonkey01 Aug 14, 2005 02:15 PM

I recently bought a hog island boa about 9months old, my question is she likes to hide under her water bowl, there are two other hides; one in middle of tank and one closer to heat lamp, the tank stays about 83 and the hot side under light is about 92,my problem is that the area under the bowl stays about 75 , do I need to worry about that temp, dont want URI, should I add an undertank heater below the water bowl?

Sounds fine, as long as the boa has access to the whole range of temperatures. If the only secure hiding area is under the water bowl, in this cool temperature, than the boa may choose to forgo the heat for security and will eventually succumb to problems.

You can try to move the water bowl just a little bit closer to the heat.. maybe 3 inches a day.. and see how she reacts.. if she goes out and seeks somewhere else, she likes it cool.
75 is not too cool.
These are the way boas are... they don't all like it to be exactly 85-95 like some books may say. My experience finds those temps too high.

She comes out and goes in the other hides every once in a while I doubt it's a security issue, she just prefers the water bowl hide I guess. I just dont want her to get sick, and the books always say about 85 on cool end. But I am new to the whole boa thing, lots of corn snakes but never a boa. Thanks for your time those who commented.

85 is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY TOO HOT for a COOl end !!!!!

My cool end is about 75, my hot end is about 82-85.
If I had a basking heat lamp, that would be the only thing going above 85 and would only do that for a few hours.

My boas are ALWAYS on the cool end...

Temps too hot will cause her to regurge, give her the runs, and more is possible...

hope this helps.. thanks, Joe
