The best way to describe this is with a picture

This is a mountain variety from Cochise Az.

Unfortunately I dont know where that is since I can't find it on the map , anyone care to go herpin?

don't live there but looked some years ago and don't see why they wouldn't still be there. South of Tucson in mountain ranges and of not very high up in the Huachucas, around Patagonia and mountain range , around but not in the Saguaro park area. I bet you will check the local wildlife for if one can hunt these areas because we has permites and desinated researchers that we were with. The ones we saw was of the classic one that you posted of picture. These are only a few places that i know of and would think there has to be more areas.

Most of the ranges in se Az produce animals like you're describing. The Huachucas, Chiricahuas, Dragoon, Mule Mts to name but a few of the more commonly hiked ranges.
Good luck!

Just a thought...
The picture you posted is copyrighted by Tom Brennan.
Why not contact him and ask him where it was?
You can usually find him on the AZ herp forums...
