Can someone post a pic of het pied belly markings

kylescott Aug 14, 2005 07:13 PM

Im not positive of what the belly markings should be on a het pied. I have seen people post pics in the past, but its been awhile. Can someone explain what the markings should look like and post a picture (if possible). Here is a baby ball that I beleive looks like the markings, but correct if Im wrong. I not going through all my snakes looking for a morph. I just saw this very clean belly/markings and thought I would ask more experience breeders.

Thanks,
Kyle

I don't know alot about these belly markings but I do know most of the time they look more towards the tail, might help to put a picture up of that. And I do believe that the markings still haven't been proven to really mean they are het pied, but I could be wrong.

That is one of my poss het pied ... The male 100% het father has the "marker" trait and out of 4.3 babies, 1.2 has "marker" like the father ...

The reason I asked is I've noticed that along with the two previously mentioned marker traits (black lines and clear belly) many Het Pieds or PH Pieds seem to have a little orangish pre-Ringer discoloration on the belly. I'd be interested to see if this is perhaps a third marker trait and how often these pre-Ringer animals prove out.

Thats very worth looking into.Especially when you think about all the ch females with clear/border-striped bellies that people bred to their 100% het pied males.
Everything is genetic after all.Perhaps maybe even those non-het clear/border striped hatchlings from normals...lol

no your right about the marking, doesn't always mean there het.

CJBianco Aug 14, 2005 07:26 PM

The marker traits (belly markings) are generally considered to occur in the last 1/3 of the tail just above the vent.

This is an old photo of a completely normal animal with the so-called marker traits. Notice the black lines outlining the last 1/3 of the tail as well as the clear belly.

Hope this helps...
