Catching a cold??

milli Aug 15, 2005 08:41 AM

Hi all:

In this few days, I have noticed that one of my baby eastern is "sneezing".

It is making "gi" sounds and withdrawing its head back when it "sneezes", and alittle of colorless liquid comes out of his mouth (not the nose). I checked the nose, there is no liquid.

That happens when I put it on my hands after it is soaked for about 20 mins.

Did it catch a cold since its housed beside a window that is open during the night and the temp. could drop to 15~18 C druing the night.

If it caught a cold, what should I do?

thanks everyone!

How deep is the water the baby is soaking in? If it's a little too deep they can aspirate some of the water & yes that can cause pneumonia.
Try soaking them in water shallow enough that they don't have to hold their heads up to keep them out of the water. I realize they do tend to put their entire head under water to drink but if the water is shallow so that it's their own choice to put their head under water, that's what they need.
Then make sure they're warm enough after the bath.

If this one did catch something the thing to do is take it to a reptile vet & get it treated, then keep it quarantined from any other turtles. If aspiration pneumonia happens it's very serious, there's no home treatment for that.

Good luck with this one!
