Suddenly a piggy!

maneatingorchid Aug 15, 2005 04:35 PM

Ok, we've had Beren for a while now, and he's always been a very picky eater. Like, he'd eat once a week, sometimes with hunger strikes in between. Within the past month, he's started eating a huge earhworm every day. I'm wondering if anyone knows what might cause this type of change. He's more active than he used to be, as well.

I'm going to try to get some pics of him up in the next couple of days, as well as of our female, who is currently in a bandage from breaking an arm.

April,

It's great to hear a progress report! I'm glad he is eating so well. I don't know what to say about the appetite but I know that my males don't eat as much in the winter as in the summer and fall. The also don't seem to notice or care much about eating during the breeding season, which should just be over, and then they feed up until the winter cool down. Maybe this is his cycle now. Could be that he is hit a fully mature age now. I think the males are slower to mature than females just liek us humans!

So, do you still have your lep? The girl I got from you is doing great as is the male I got from Texas. I am not sure yet but the female is looking very plump and I suspect she is gravid but am not yet positive. I can't feel anything and since she doesn't like to be messed with I don't push it at this point.

I just got another sexed pair of leps from Florida from a guy who hand picked them and two pair of armata fresh from the importer. He lost one female before we could complete the transaction so I now have 3 males and only one female. She is still pretty freaked out so I am having to handle her with kid gloves so to speak. I am going to start hand feeding her as she is quite thin and I will be sending out a fecal sample today.

Good to hear from you and I'm glad to hear Beren is doing well. Looking forward to photo posts!

I actually passed the other female along to a friend, I wasn't looking to keep her permanently.

So here he is, the big pig.
