Brightest Blessings, All!!

I am going to get my new 'baby' on Saturday!! I am VERY excited. I beleive I already have a name, but am wondering what handles everyone else has given to their Tegus.
I will (hopefully) have pictures and stats on the new arrival on Monday.

Let's see those names!

One thing I like to do is use names associated with our lizards'
country of origins. Tegus, we use Latin American names, or Spanish-American, etc. uros......African names etc.

For males we have Rex = king, Phoenix = shoot I forgot, I believe powerful, or prince of the sun.

Females: Tamika = a peaceful place or tranquil place, Ruby-red,
and now we have Bella = beautiful.

Here's the link to one website having names. You should be able to search for girl or boy names.

Awesome news you are joining in on our addiction of tegus!!!!!

Congrats on the tegu! My baby red is named "Stash", since I never see him. And if it turns out to be a girl it will be "Stasha". Actually, I am seeing him more often now since I changed his light cycle. Good luck, and what kind of tegu is it?

Congrats on the upcoming baby! Our Red Tegu is named Tijolo which is Portugese for "brick" at lease according to a translation site I used! LOL Wanted also to use a name that was from his origin. Portugese is one of the languages spoken in Argentina (according to several websites-excuse me if I'm wrong!)

Our other critters are as follows:
Water Dragons- Zeus and Venus
Iguana- Frodo (missing both ring "fingers" due to bad 1st owner)
Phoenix- Albino (orange) Corn snake-came back from near death cat attack after getting out once without even a scar.
Nyssa and Kaa- Ball pythons (Names from books)
Treasure- Bull Snake- my first road find

Good luck. Seems like for those of us that treat our pets as kids names are VERY important! LOL Those breeders must think we are nuts!

Ripley Jul 17, 2003 06:00 PM

Congrats on the new addition, Stefanie. Only 2 more days!

It usually takes us a few days/weeks to name a new kid. Our tegus are:

Ripley (Female Red)
A friend said she looked like a chest-burster from the Alien movies. OK, maybe there's a small resemblance. Ripley seemed a more appropriate name, especially after watching her literally rip through several meals.

Ravage (Male Gold)
When we first got him, he was very skittish and frequently bit. He doesn't bite anymore and is quite handleable now, but is still quite hyper & mischievous. He kinda looks at us weird when we open the cage and say "release Ravage!"

Nivea, A.K.A Baby Girl, formerly the Beast. I chose Nivea cause she's a softie...well as soft as a red tegu can be...
That's all
