green iguana question

ridethesky900 Aug 15, 2005 10:05 PM

hello i have a 3 year old 4 foot green iguana and i adopted him from a family that kept him in a 40 gallon tank. now hes in a 75 gallon, still not good enough for his size. i was wondering if my 150 watt basking spot bulb that provides only uva rays is suitable for him in there. it stays about 14 inches away from him at all times. any comments would be appreciated. please email me at ridethesky900@hotmail.com

U need UV-B, aka Full Spectrum Lighting.

Here's a link:

Zoomed is a popular brand.

Get the iguana in a 6 foot x 4 foot x 6 foot (height) eclosure.
At 4 feet, it needs LOTS of spance.

would 36x28x48 be big enough for a full grown iguana?

Nooo my friend.
That's almost HALF the requirement!

The measurements I gave u are considered the "minimun" for a full grow iguana. What you got is suitable for a juvenile iguana. Make sure u get urs in a proper enclosure.
If u need help or suggestions, feel free to ask.

It sounds like what you are describing is an incandescent heat bulb. Those actually only provide some uva rays for the animal. What you need is a floroescent strip light bulb (i would go with the reptiglo 5.0) to provide the uvb your animalneeds. also, no the 75 isnt big enough to house your ig but it definately is an upgrade from the 40!
