macajuel Aug 16, 2005 12:36 PM

my father in law's boa is 14 years old. i want to mate him with my female next year (she is currently 19 months old. but i was wandering if he was too old or even if there is an age that they wont breed anymore. also the last time i handled him, i found some clear and white slimy substance on my shirt. is this how their semen looks or did he blow a loogey on me? -shawn

if i rember right the boas that founded the arabesques where in their late 20's. but often pet boas make poor breeders and you might have to change feeding habits and cycle them four or five times before they get the idea.

If I had to pick one species to work with it would be Boa constrictor ssp. And if I had to choose just one type, it would be amarali, Bolivian amarali!
I hope to bring more color to them with my Orange Crush X Blonde breeding!

years. His male lived into his mid-twenty's, and produced a healthy litter of 45 the last year he was alive.
As far as breeding one that old to such a young female ? I'd really consider the size difference before doing this. You really don't want to have a male that's very much larger if at all. Your female seems too young to breed anyway despite what size she may be, but that's not the topic here, and that was only my opinion anyways. Take care, David/Morgans Boas
