The CAIMAN SPECTACLE

kerncountyherp Aug 16, 2005 01:13 PM

Has anyone been following the caiman story about the alligator in the pond in San Pedro, CA. I live directly across the street from harbour park. And the fiasco about the "dangerous maneater" is amazing!!! The under 5 foot caiman has the perfect place to live and the city of LA has closed the shorelines down with police tape and 24 hour survellance and they are out there in boats and trying to catch it. What a joke!!! There are like 7 news trucks there 24 hours a day waiting for the capture to take place! Anyone think about the stealth approach and maybe casting a floating/thawed mackeral w/ a couple of hooks in it???? I have caught 4 american alligators in my life and three were on a zara spook lure fishing for bass. and the other one 4 1/2 footer i caught by wading and grabbed by the snout just like in the movies! This is been going on now for days. We'll see how long this fiasco lasts! Oh yah Dept of fish&game said its not there problem . Who outlawed em in the state? The city has brought in some people from the SWHERPSoc. Anyways just wanted to see if anyone else was following this story?

Russ Johnson drove eight hours two weeks ago, past Lake Mead to the northern edge of the Grand Canyon, where paved roads and cellphone service don't exist. Johnson's task: locating and capturing a 10-foot alligator that dwelled on the Parashant National Monument, a reptile seen so rarely that many considered it a myth. The Scottsdale resident and a crew of five searched and waited for six days. They narrowed the alligator's whereabouts to a shallow pond, but Johnson soon
