How many hatchlings can one house together? Flamedcrestie?

lzrdldy530 Aug 16, 2005 04:07 PM

How many hatchlings can be raised together in, for example, a 10 gallon enclosure? What about a 15 gallon? And how much of a range of ages/sizes would work without excessive bullying or tail-biting? I would use great bunches of plastic vines, logs and branches, and put multiple food and water dishes around. Just asking because right now I have clutchmate/siblings in individual kritter keepers all over the house (2 per) and my husband is giving me the evil eye. If I could consolidate a little without injury or loss of life, it would help. I have 8 or 10 hatchlings within a month of age and all are eating just fine.

i currently keep 4-5 1-3 month old cresteds in large kritter keepers. i only keep them with cresteds of similar size and are within a month age of one another typically. just be careful when you open the lid and be sure to visually check each gecko each day, in case one is dehydrated, or smaller than the others then it can be secluded and given more attention.

building a rack system will also help to organize all the cages in one spot. Basically a series of shelves with room enough to fit the cages in. There are lots of rack systems available to buy, though most are rather costly. To build y our own is much cheaper and really only takes basic carpentry to build and an eye for proper measuring so the shelves are just wide and high enough to fit the cagees snuggly, if you plan the shelf above to act as the 'lid' for the cages below it. Or, if you want to keep the lids on, then just leave an inch for air circulation above each cage per shelf.

I actually bought a plastic shelving unit some time ago that the kritter keepers will fit it, but was looking to consolodate the number of containers that I need to put food and water dishes into, and maybe provide the little beasties with an opportunity to interact a little with their contemporaries, like kids in preschool.
