slow eater

gizmo1 Aug 16, 2005 04:37 PM

Hey everyone,

I know its not an unheard of topic, but my BP who didn't used to be a problem to feed is now eating very infrequently.

The only times he eats regularily is about once every 3-4 weeks. In all of the BP care books and sites, it says BPs should be fet once a week, or so. He (assuming he because of his shape) is about 4 yrs old now and just shy of 4 feet in length.

He has bad eye cap problems that are probably never going to get solved, and I think that this may be related to the problem with his eating habits. Today, I tried feeding, he seemed interested and took a snap, missed the rat and bit himself! Once before, he was on a carpet when I was feeding him, and he missed and bit the carpet, and I even had to release his teeth from the carpet!!

After biting himself, he showed no interest whatsoever. I tried dipping the rat's head in chicken broth, and re-warming the rat, and no luck.

It gets expensive, but I can't bring myself to only try feeding once every 3-4 weeks or so. I usually try ever 1.5 to 2 weeks.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
