Brought my sick collared to a new vet today..

platinumtlc Aug 16, 2005 04:56 PM

He seemed better than the last one, didn't tell me to feed my collared more greens atleast.

The vet, Dr Henderson of Valley Animal Hospital looked at his eye which didn't seem to get any better from the last vet. The pus and discharge stopped but it became sunken and the tissue around swelled a little bit. He said he had "adema" or something and he is malnutritioned and dehydrated because of the parasites he has. I showed him the wet stool my collared had and he had it sent off for a fecal.
He sent me home with 3 different meds and also told me to let him out in the sun once and a while to boost up activity.
143$ later, the 3 meds are Panacur, Metronidazole suspension and carnivore care (a powder that I am supposed to mix with water to help with appetite and rehydration). THe other 2 are antibiotics.
The first 2 i am supposed to give one drop a day for 5 days, stop then repeat again in another 2 weeks. The powder mix I do 1 ml twice a day.

I am HOPING this will help him. My collared (which I have not named yet) woke up with a nice bright blue and orange color to him this morning while he was warming up. So ill do these meds and see what happens.

the are both used to treat parasites like nematodes and tapeworms etc...not bacterial infections. sounds like your lizard needed them though. Best of luck with the treatments.

Should I be concerned?

I wouldn't be concerned by the treatment. It sounds pretty standard to me. The only time I get concerned is if the lizard looks or acts very sick, such as having sunken in (or flattened) eyes, a drooping head, lethargy, refusal to eat, etc.

Thats why I went because he has sunken eyes, he's lethargic, he won't chase the crickets but will go after the wax worms.

Hello,
I defanitally think sun is a good idea. Mine seem to get lots of energy from being out side. If you don't have an outside pin yet, make sure that the screen isn't big enough for them to get through it! Even if it looks small enough, I would recomend making it a little smaller. I have no idea how my female did it, luckily they were supervised!

Hope it turns out well,
Morgan
