Cage Size Question

BlueEyedDevil Aug 16, 2005 05:20 PM

I have a Spotted Python, he's about 2 years old now. We changed his cage a little while back & he has just never been the same I am wondering if it might be too small for him. He is about 3&1/2 ft long a little on the skinnier side as he hasn't been eating a lot lately(not unhealthy though). What size of tank or enclosure do you recommend for Spotted Pythons? Thanks for the help!!!

If space in your house isn't a problem, I'd go with a cage that's at least 3' long and 2' wide with a height of about 18". I have two Ball Pythons and they live in a cage that's 4'x2'x18" and they're doing fine. Another option would be a 40 Gallon Breeder tank that you can buy at a pet store. What is it currently in?

I agree with the 40 gallon tank. I keep one 3 1/2 foot ball python in a 40 gallon. I'm not sure about the activity level of a spotted python...but my ball seems pretty active, and uses most of his 40 gallon.

My adult spotted lives in a 40 gallon tank. She enjoys basking on her climbing branch or flat rock, but very rarely roams (unless she's hungry). All of the species of antaresia tend to prefer hides which are small and tight. When not on her branch or on her rock, she is most likely in one of her hides. I still take her out for handling sessions in terms of major exercise.

So, as long as she is taken out consistently I wouldn't have a problem putting her in a 30 if constrained in terms of space in the herp room. Just an observation and opinion. . .

A Spotted Python would do fine in a 40 to 50 gallon tank or an enclosure at least 4'X 2'X 2'. Good luck.
