Wife is full of surprises

drzrider Aug 16, 2005 06:24 PM

I got a surprise today when I got home from work. My wife was in a shop looking at ball pythons and found this guy. She said he was in a cricket keeper with 1/4 inch of water as substrate. She wasn't sure what kind it was and the owner of the shop had no idea. He called it a tegu. She felt sorry for it and brought it home to give it or find it a better home. My wife posted pictures on this forum and JPShadow (always a big help) said it was an Ornate. It has 5 bands of yellow spots on its back, a pink tongue, and the nostrils are in the middle of its snout. It is definitely an Ornate unless there is a H2O monitor that fits that description.

Its a cute little guy but she fed it a mouse and it pulled the guts out of the mouse stomach. YUCK!!!

BTW: I am getting an enclosure set up for it now.

Beautiful little guy! Wow, I love ornates. There going to be the next species I get. There just simply amazing. So are you going to keep him or what are you going to do with it?

I am not sure yet. I really wanted a pair or trio of Argus. He is gorgeous with bright yellow and a tinge of red on its throat. I see why my wife wanted to get him out of that store. I was in that store getting feeders a few days ago and the monitor was not there then. I don't think they could have had him long enough to do damage.

I don't see any in the classifieds and I really wanted 2 or 3 of the same type monitor.

Anyone know of any young Ornates for sale anywhere?

Doesn't look to be in bad shape from the pictures. I am sure it will do better in your hands.

awesome your wife made a good decision. i hate some pet stores. the one by my house once had a nile monitor in a tank with a jungle carpet in a plastic box inside his tank. stressing them both. i contacted the headquarters and ripped some "butt"
