yes you should start on Fruit flies!!! They are so much easier and cheaper than crickets. Check out my how-to article on how to start cultures http://www.joshsfrogs.com/howto.html

Leucs like to climb much more than auratus. They are also more bold, so you will see them more. As far as breeding goes, my males will call every day all day long. However, I only get eggs after I have a few weeks of dryness followed my floods.

hey thanks for the info... how dry should i make it? and then how wet?
when i do start the flood season... do i need 2 make a place for them 2 lay eggs?? do they lay in a plant, standing water or a hidden dark wet spot??
what should i use for a climbing surface?? any certain plant that works well?

thanks again:
Sam

Well, that is hard to say. I have little to no ventilation on my tanks. I also live in michigan where the humidity is often times above 80%. I just stop misting them for a few weeks. If you live in arizona, that would kill your frogs.

When it is time for the "wet season" I mist twice daily. Since the humidity can't change much in my vivs due to high michigan humidity, I assume the presence of rain is more a factor than humidity is.

Mine have always laid on a petri dish under a coco hut.

I like big leafy plants in my tanks for leucs to climb on. There is a green and white leafed plant they sell at home depot or lowes that is from brazil, but I can't remember the name. They will climb any background you have and even the glass sides.

Your temps are perfect. I got my springtails from Ed's Fly Meat several years ago, but you can probably also collect them from under rotted wood in your area. They will be a different specie than what Ed offers, but are still edible. Search around here for multiple past posts on culturing them. It's easy to do.
