Need to recruit some people to give advice

slaytonp Jul 17, 2003 11:23 AM

ACA, the Amphibian Conservation Alliance is a non-profit organization that is largely funded by its founder and president. There is a message board where usually young and naive people ask questions about their "froggies," usually ones they have picked up or purchased and then have no idea how to care for. There is one person who is a true amphibian expert that usually attempts to answer their questions, but when she is on vacation or otherwise unable to monitor the message board, there is really no one to help. These innocents are the very people the conservation alliance would like to educate, as tactfully as possible, although at times, it can be very tempting to scold.

If any of you would be willing to cruise through the site and messages on occasion to help out with answers, this would be appreciated. It's also rather fun. Just remember, you are educating very uninformed individuals, so it must be done kindly.

Yet another forum? Why not refer them to this forum for advice? This is one of the largest forums on the web, and this where most newbies show up anyway.

I have referred several people here and they have posted their questions. However, the focus of ACA is on environmental policy pertaining to amphibians. The founders do a lot of policy work in Washington. There are no advertisers. It has been on the web for over 4 years, so is not "just another forum." The message board has only one or two posts a day, mostly from one-time only posters with panic questions. Regulars are rare. The questions are often naive or sometimes annoying, but are from the kind of people ACA is most interested in educating. It is simply very different from these forums, not even competative.

I posted this request here because there are some people with a lot of practical knowledge who seem to truly enjoy sharing it, and have a little time to do this. And indeed, there are a few helping out already. This is greatly appreciated-- Thank you.
