4 feet long and growing!

Rollin Jul 17, 2003 11:29 AM

He's had about 8 months of growth. He was born in July at Berts place (agama international), not long after that he hibernated for 4-5 months. I've been measuring him often. On March 21st he was 22.25 inches now he's 48. That's 26 inches in 17 weeks and works out to average about 1.5 inches per week . The graph looks like a fairly smooth curve. At first he was growing at 2 inches per week lately it's been just under an inch per week.

He's looking terrific! Rex is 38" and 10-11 lbs. It sounds like he is at about the same growth rate, though he has a bit to go before reaching the size of yours! Bella is 37" which is good for a adult blue female.

Keep up the terrific work Rollin and thanks again for the pic!

Yes I got her from Jane. Could not ask for a better looking and healther blue female then the one I got from Jane. When she gets big enough I plan to keep her in the same cage with Santaigo.

Thanks Greg, all I wanted when I got my tegus was a 4 footer so I'm happy now . It really seemed to make a "big" difference when he went from 3 1/2 to 4 feet. You keep up the good work too!

Nice looking tegu . Santaigo was about the same length at that age. How big is his snt- vnt. Santiagos Snt - vent is just over 20" now .his Snt - vent was about 18" at one year. He did make his tail bleed a little when he was real yong. So I thimk he may have another 1/2" - 1" more lenght if he did not have this happen to him . Take care Russ

Thanks, I think he's about 17" snout to vent but I didn't get a good measurement.

Great pic!! Unfortunately, mine isn't growing that fast. It kinda makes me sick to my stomach to think that yours hibernated and is still outgrowing mine. Lex was born in July last year from Ron St. Pierre and is 43 3/4" with no hibernation. Lex gets fed everyday (1 medium rat one day, ground turkey w/calcium/vitamins the next, used to feed him fruit, but seems to have lost interest) temps on the cool side 80-85 degrees, basking 120-125, and a powersun UV bulb. Lex did stop growing for about a month for some reason..but now has picked back up again.
I know not all will grow at the same rate, but still *sigh*
The only thing I think I did wrong when he was young, is I did not dust his pinky mice with calcium. I won't make that mistake again whenever I get my red this month or next.

Keep up the great work!

Lets take a look at my other B&W tegu Jazz (June Ron and Stella). He/she was kept under the same conditions in the same cage and I doubt that Jazz will get to the size of yours. I don't think it's from Taz intimidating Jazz either because Jazz was bigger up until 32". I think it's just like people are some are taller and some are shorter.
