I'm back with another question...

shopunke Aug 17, 2005 12:06 PM

Went out to check on the turtles this morning (I was gone all yesterday- my dad took care of them) and Booger was hanging out up on the beach... I picked him up and noticed his bottom shell seems a little soft... He's not even two inches long, is this normal?

Pip, the barely-one-inch-guy, is doing great. He's adapting real well to his new home.

A little bit soft like pliable but not mushy is OK for young turtles because they are growing.

shopunke Aug 18, 2005 06:09 AM

Awesome, good. It's not that bad but I was concerned none the less. When should it start hardening up?

Also, I'm a bit confused... How quickly do they grow? I've heard 4 inches at 3 years, and 4 inches at nine months... What should I expect?

boogernsnot Aug 18, 2005 11:49 PM

i have ALWAYS been told that RES should ONLY grow an inch per year... anything more than that and they could become sickly because their organs/body outgrows their shell and could cause them to die hope this helps!
