Breeding Age for Mainland Male

sneakyfree Aug 17, 2005 05:43 PM

I have an '03 Tiger het albino male that was over 7 feet when I got him in July of '04. He has grown slowly and is now only about 8.5 feet and weighs less than 13 pounds...He recently went off feed for over a month in the middle of summer? Still looks healthy....put him in with a big fat and he made no effort to breed....the male is now over 2 years old, off feed, but shows no interest breeding a receptive female....what are the chances I will get him to breed this year? Do a large portion of mainland males not breed until over 20 lbs? 3 years? basically, my question is: what percentage of 2.5 year old, 8.5 foot, 13 lb, mainland males will breed?
thanks!

When you say that you put him in with a receptive female, how do you know the female is receptive? Especially if the male isn't breeding-doesn't seem like there's much to base her willingness to breed on.

Many males will ignore females that can't/won't breed. That could potentially be the root of the problem... The size and age of your male is big enough for him to breed.

Hope this helps
