could i use one of these home humidifiers in my veiled chameleons cage just modified?
Yes, the ultrasonics are great as they produce a fog of water vapor and really help raise humidity. But, if you put the humidifier itself in the cage the internal electronic parts can be damaged by the fog. It's better to put the unit right outside the cage and either direct the fog in through the cage mesh with pvc water pipe or let it pour down through the cage top. Most room humidifiers have a removable spout on the top of the reservoir that you can match pvc pipe to to make a spout.
I meant to add that you can cycle the humidifier off and on using a multiple setting lamp timer. Use a good humidity gauge to see how long the unit needs to run to get the cage air humidity where you want it. Then turn it off and time how long it takes the cage to get TOO dry. This tells you how often you will need the unit to run in 24 hours. Remember, you don't need the cage to be a constant high level, but rather go through drier and wetter cycles during the day and night.
