Flourescent light over aquarium getting wet....

PhunkeyPhish Jul 17, 2003 12:16 PM

Well im not new to the turtle world, but with my sliders when they were in an aquarium, now i have them in an indoor pond, they had submersible filters. I just set up another aquarium though a small one for a musk turtle, i have an aquarium hood on it, and i took the glass out of it since uvb is filtered out by glass and plastic. But i have a hang over water filter so the splash it creates get the flourescent bulb and lamp wet, is this a major problem? if so how can i rig the filter so that the water doesnt splash? thanks.

Over time the contacts for the bulb will oxidize from being wet. Another problem might be hardwater stains building up on the bond, blocking the UVB that your bought the bulb for.

Same thing is happening to me.. I'm thinking of simply getting a screen and puting it where the splash occurs. THe UV rays will basically still be there and the splash will be caught by the good ol cover
