Misting Systems

WillHayward Aug 18, 2005 02:42 AM

What do you use?
Where can I order it?
Is it worth its expense?
Have you had any problems with it?

I NEED to order TWO within the end of the week.
Please help me decide the best unit to use in my reptariums.

I have used Habba-Mist before and they work good for a single cage. There some draw backs, they are very loud, can only mist a small area ,can only hold enough water for a few days, plus that don't last that long and quit working after a few months. But besides that their cheap and if your looking for a quick fix, Habba-Mist will work for you. Right now I am using the Rainmaker Jr. which works great. I has a ultra quiet pump, a large resivior, plus can mist up to 20 cages and be programmed to mist up 14 times per day. It also creates a very fine mist, almost like a fog which is neat. These units are much more expensive though, about $170 but are worth it in the long run. You can order them from cloudtops.com plus a number of different distrubtors.

Thanks for the reply.

Can the rainmaker be run dry? or does it over heat?

Im looking into these.

I found this very disturbing thread: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/terrarium/msg0420413324914.html
(Please don't delete this just because I linked another forum...)

HAve you had any similar problems?

I think I might pay the extra $10 to get the "better" system from the more "reliable" company.

Thanks.

The rainmaker jr. comes standard with a pump that cannot run dry but for just a little bit more you can upgrade the pump to one that can be run dry. My system works great and I have no complaints. The Pro Mist they were talking about in the thread may be better but I think it is over priced. I believe it costs $259 and the water container is extra. The only complaint I have about the Rainmaker Jr. is that it took for ever to arrive and I had alot of trouble contacting the company. I ordered it and about a month later it arrived. I would suggest not buying directly from the company but buy from one of their retailers such as Saurian Enterprises.

Thanks. Im going to build my own fogger using a humidifier and tubing. That amount is much to much and I need to have it in 2 weeks.

I just bought a pro mist from www.pro-products.com for $191 shipped. You do have to supply your own water container, but that's no big deal. Cuts down o the shipping costs. So far, I am happy with it, but I need to figure something out better for drainage! I run mine twice a day for 30 minutes, and my jacksonii seem to appreciate it. Cuts down on hand misting, too. Oh, and the pump will run dry. It's model PM-60, i think.

I have read on other posts from reputable keepers/breeders that using a humidifier in the way you mentioned can lead to a build up of bacteria, if the humidifier and all the tubing in not cleaned and sterilized thoroughly and regularly. Plus, the humidifier will obviously help with humidity levels, but not neccesarily hydration. Good Luck.
