I think your idea of an external hide/burrow mounted outside the cage is terrific. I'd like to do that myself but I'm wondering how you attached the cage hole to the hide hole. What holds the two together?

Im not russ but maybe you can try an apropriotly sized pvc pipe the put it through the two holes.

Yes, I was thinking about that. The PVC pipe would make a great access hole and keep the mulch from falling in between the cages. Also, since the cages are not attached I could remove the hide for thorough cleaning. I wouldn't need much of the pipe either. Just have to make sure it's a tight fit or it could get pushed out. I wonder if there's a way to secure the PVC pipe to the main cage?
