For those who do not know, Ty Kubin died last Sat. night, 08/13/2005.
Ty Kubin may not be familiar to some, but to the herpers in the Dallas, Ft. Worth area and surrounding areas, he was well known for being a huge breeder of herps in the 90's. He supplied pet shops all over, including other states, with snakes and other herps. His old company, EMI-Reptilia, produced the hide boxes and water dishes that were either gray or tan that had the plastic outer layer surrounding the base of the product, to help keep it better submerged in the aspen bedding of herp cages. These products are very prevalent in many herp collections to this day. Along with that, they also sold aspen bedding, and made custom order wooden cages.
I had the pleasure of meeting Ty in 1994 and was shown the huge breeding warehouse he had for his company. It was unbelievable and had colubrids, boids, and pythons of all sorts. I didn't know where to begin looking! LOL! He also was such an encyclopedia of knowledge, answering my herp questions with precise details and then some.
Ty really loved snakes and herps and basically all animals. He was an example of a true herper. One neat thing he did was produce the first, to my knowledge, true actual striped lavendar cal king. He worked very hard for years on that project, admist others.
Ty was also one of the funniest guys I have ever met. No matter what time of day, or whatever was happening, he was always cracking jokes and making me smile.
I will miss my beloved friend Ty very much.
