Live Plants in Crested Tanks

seboba17 Aug 18, 2005 06:01 PM

Does anyone know what kind of live plants are safe to put in tanks with crested geckos? Besides looking good, I've heard that live plants can increase humidity because they release gaseous water, and the fake, plastic, suction cup plants tend to fall down.

I'm looking for safe species that are hardy and small enough to fit in a tank.

Also, how do I make sure the plant is parasite free before putting it in with my geckos? Can I spray it with some tank disinfectant or would that kill the plant?

here is a link that may help you out.

in my personal experience pothos is the most hardy and durable plant you can use. The only problem with using it is the leaves get somewhat large and may throw off the scale of your enclosure. i wouldn't suggest using it in anything smaller than a 29 gallon aquarium

as far as humidity goes. i wouldn't neccesarily say the plants increase the humidity, however they balance it out. if you over spray your enclosure, the plants are more likely to absorb some of the moisture. the plants will also maintain the moisture in the cage over a longer period of time releasing it into the air. this way you tend to not have as many dry, WET, dry, WET cycles going on.
