I am looking at these and am wondering if they would make a good pet. I know that babies are nippy (can't be as nippy as my san diego gopher snake) but do they usually feed well? I would want a male as they stay smaller but would like to know what size tank a adult would need do they make rubbermaids that size or would a 3x2x1.5 be ok as a glass tank or what? Also what would a adult that was like 7 feet eat? Would it still be on rats (maybe collasol)? I have read they like a ambient temperature of about 80 and a hot spot of about 88 is this right? I have read they like to climb is this true would I have to add a climbing branch (I already have but would I have to get a cageto hold it)? I have also read that they like high humidity and like it higher during shed instead of raising the whole tanks humidity could I just add a humid hide? Shuld I add a LARGE (like it's own rubbermaid)water bowl or just a regular sized one? I have read that they like to burrow and aspen is good but would cypress mulch work because it holds a lot of moisture and would help with humidity or should I stick with the aspen? Any other imfo would help.

OK, I've got a female, still pretty young about 3.5 feet long and you couldn't ask for a calmer snake. She's never struck and the worst shes ever done is musk if you grab her by the rear half to pick her up (meaning past about midway down). a 3x2x1.5 tank would probably be good for an adult male, although as is the norm, bigger is usually better. As for feeding a large one, that depends on the girth, if he's thinner jumbo rats might be fine, but if hes a fat guy then you might want to go for some small rabbits or something like that. I've got to get to class though, I'll try to post more later.

My pair are about 6-7', very tame. Male prefers large rats, has eaten a small rabbit. Female is actually his daughter, slightly smaller, will eat anything. She laid 11 eggs (incest!) this spring, 4 fertile, but they dried up in an incubator I didn't like.
