Help, Vision vs Boaphile

Joeycoco98 Aug 18, 2005 09:46 PM

Can someone tell me the difference between the two. I appears from the pics that the Boaphile cages do not have spaces for lighting. Otherwise, I can't see any major differences.

Thanks,
Miller

Boaphile are made of thicker materials that hold heat and humidity better, the inside is smooth and have no recess and they have a flip down acrylic door. altough they dont have any recess for a heat lamp or fluo light, both can be installed inside the cage

Vision are molded of thin plastic and have many ridges/crevice. They have slidding GLASS instead of acrylic wich can be an advantage for certain peoples, and a disadvantage for others....it all depends on what you like and what type of reptile that you will house in the cage

Thank you for the reply, I will be housing my kings and Black Milk Snake. My next question is why would anyone buy the Boaphile if heating placemnent is an issue? My main reason to get the cage is to help control the heat on my Kings snakes.

Thanks,
Miller

I haven't any experience with Boaphile other than their Rhino rax(which I got rid of)Fred Allbury on the Indigo forum likes them alot.

I have some visions and while no cage is perfect I do like them.

You can cover over the vents with plastic, glass, Saran wrap etc. if you want to raise humidity.(or put in a damp hide)

The locking glass is nice because it doesn't scratch up in time like the plastic will.

Some models have a heat shroud for heating if you don't want to bother with under tank heating.

Visions are pretty sturdy. There is one crevice under the bottom glass slider. I am going to just put a bead of fish tank silicone on it to prevent crud getting in.

The black color of the Boaphiles may make a snake feel more secure(?)Cleaning out the Visions has been pretty easy.

You can't go too wrong with either. There are others too like Animal Plastics and Show case cages to check out. Good luck.

In my experience, I found the vision cages difficult to heat until I installed a radiant heat panel. Depending on your abient temperature, using lights/ceramics with the models with the drop down light shroud (332) may not produce enough heat. None of the undertank heaters are labeled for use on plastic cages, although many people use them without problems.
Since I couldn't get my 332 hot enough with lighting alone, I switched to a model without the drop down light (322) for more room and installed an RHP. You may still need to cover part of the vent to maintain your desired heat and humidity level, but you can still have a flourescent outside the cage and the RHP takes up very little room.
Just my 2 cents.
