A variety of Eastern Box Turtles ~

Tektum Aug 18, 2005 11:00 PM

This is to give you an idea of the amount of variation just within a relatively close area. All of these specimens were from the same general area on Cape-Cod, Massachusetts.
The two to the left are female and the two to the right are male. The one female is exceptionally bright for a female.
Thanx, leo

Great picture Leo. Very good example of variation. That's what really intrigues me about herps.

Stellar female in that shot. Happy you are back from your hiatus. Good to see you.

Still in CT but heading back to CA. Sadly Anouk escaped last season and hopefully is living large in the CT outback. Watch those woods folks. They are escape artists.

wow, those are stunning turtles.
question for you, leo. what exactly IS the law concerning pet easterns in mass.? from what i read, it seems like you need a permit, but that it's near impossible to get one. please help me figure this out. thanks

again, simply beautiful turtles.

Eastern Box Turtles (nominant T.C.C) are a species of special concern in Massachusetts. They cannot be kept without a restricted species permit. Permits are usually given to people that are in the business of Education (as in presentations), Zoo or Breeding. In any event, it is unlawful to remove any Species of special concern from the Commonwealth.
In the event that someone were trying to attain a permit, it would help if you listed where you would purchase captive bred individuals or where you would obtain them from the wild in a state where they are not restricted.
Its immpossible to get a permit for any restricted species just for the sake of having it for a pet.
Hope that helps, thanx, Leo
