buried slider

I have a RES that I keep outside until it gets too cold. She always stays close to or in the pond. I had not see her for a few days and was worried that she had escaped the enclosure but today I found her buried a few inches in the mulch around the edge of the garden. I moved the mulch a little (which is now I found her) and she pulled her head in so I left her there. She has never done this before and she has lived out there for 3 years. Is this normal behavior or should I be concerned?

What have your temperatures been lately? I would just observe her and see if she is not eating or acting strangely. Perhaps she is just burrowing in to escape extreme heat.

The temperature has been 95-100 degrees for about 2 weeks and the day she dug in it went down to 70 with a high of 85. I was wondering if the change in temperature had anything to do with it. It was back up in the 90's today and she is still buried.
