tandrag Aug 19, 2005 10:34 AM

I got this cage, I believe it is a 50 gal tall, not sure on gallonage but dimensions are 36"x18"x17" Is this suffient for a bearded ot should I go with a longer (48" cage?

the cage you described sounds more like a 35 gal long. For an adult bearded dragon you need a cage that is at least 4'x2'x2'.

Man don't listen to that guy about a huge cage. My brother has a healthy and happy bearded dragon that is 2 and a half years old living in a a 54 gallon 36" x 18" x 20". Your tank size is more than sufficent. You got 4.5sq ft of floor space, 5sq or 6sq feet is better but for a lazy lizard that's fine.

Pardon me, but before you go handing advice out, I believe you should have a clue what you're talking about. 4x2x2 (or at least 18 in. high) is the MINIMUM required, and is not "huge" cage. The 36"x18"x17" that the thread starter has is NOT sufficient for an adult nor is a 36x18x20. Sure, some dragons may not be active ALL the time, but give them the room, and they will explore every inch and enjoy it too. Would you be inclined to explore a CLOSET? Because with that size tank, that's pretty much what it is. I am in no way ripping on the original poster as he/she was just asking a legitimate question, but I really don't think that people should be giving erroneous advice when they haven't a clue.

Tandrag, definitely go with the larger cage. You'll have more room to work with for designing the tank and your beardie will appreciate it, too.
Definitely listen to PHLdyPayne, as she is a moderator of this forum, I believe she is more qualified to answer your question than Mr. KingGeorge.

Whatever man, this is a fourm for people to get information and make their own decsion. You can shout all you want that the smallest cage you should have is 4' x 2' x 2, but I have my own proof that you can house a adult beardie comfortably in a 54gal aquarium, so you know where you can take you minimum dimensions and put it, cause your's is not the minimum. We all know when you do everything right, somethings bound to go wrong. Well this is enough typing for now, I'm felling kinda cramped in my closet since it's not a 5000sq ft house.

ps. I know my beardie's got way better color than anyone of yours, they'll be a picture soon of him cramed and unhappy in HIS small closet of a cage. =)=)=)=)!
