Social?

PHRatz Aug 19, 2005 11:39 AM

Do any of you see your female box turtles behaving in a social manner of any sort?
My Shell E the Alpha Queen has never been social with other turtles. When my missing Hope was still here living with Shell E & Charity, they led separate lives. They avoided one another as much as possible.
Janie & Charity have been staying outside together, at first Janie seemed to fear the large Charity but they're used to each other now. Yesterday I walked outside Janie saw me from the brick turtle house & came out stalking me for food. She got some, I brought Shell E outside & fed her. Hobo stays on the other side of the property now so he wasn't part of this equation.
I looked for Charity & discovered she was in the same house Janie had just come from. They'd been there all day together.
I went in the house, about an hour later I came back outside & there sat Charity & Janie basking in the sun together, shells touching as if they're buddies now. At dusk they went back to the same house to sleep. There are 3 turtle houses out there, they don't have to use the same one but they chose to do that.
How social with one another are your female turtles?

Maybe there is one "best" turtle house, and one "best" basking spot and they all just want the same "best" one? lol

Ya know that's a good point! Maybe they're competing for everything & it just seems like they're hanging out together.
Janie has changed Charity's personality. Janie is very forward & outgoing, Charity has always been very timid & shy but as she watches Janie she's becoming more bold.
That's good I want her to be because I don't like her freaking out because I put my hand near her.
That makes sense they may not be buddies, they're in competition so they feel like no way one is going to get something that the other can't have. LOL
