Somewhat odd question

tspuckler Aug 19, 2005 12:11 PM

Does anyone know how long it takes for rigor mortis (stiffening) to take place in dead snakes, if it happens at all?

Body stiffening post-mortem is the same as for other animals, and you may see it several hours after death... but it usually disappears several hours later once decomposition progresses. Varying factors often seen in snake enclosures are humidity and temperature. Often there is no rigor mortes.
