When is a good time to intro a male for a females second clutch??

Colorfulcorns Aug 19, 2005 10:40 PM

I have a female corn that is bulging and she shed 6 days ago.
She's eating like crazy( 8 fuzzy rats in the last 6 days).
When should I put the male in with her??
If you look at her tail in the pic you'll see she gravid.
The pic is about 3 weeks old, she's bigger now, I can see the white skin between her scales on the last few inches of her.

Some females that are in good health will have a second clutch of eggs without the introduction of a male, if this is this females first time as a mom i wouldnt try, if not and she is good and healthy you could wait until the eggs are laid let her shed then give a good feed then introduce the male a few days later. dont forget to keep feeding small but often until she nests up for a clutch. If she does second clutch remember to treat her like a queen with the feeding, start with small mice for a couple of weeks and let her build up to large.

Hope this helps.

The person I bought her off of said that she had just laid a clutch. As I said she eats like crazy and I've been giving her rat pinks and fuzzies. I also put calcium powder on them about once a week to give her extra calcium.
My only concern is, I want to make sure she's going to have fertile eggs...

Sorry but you didnt explain that she had already laid one clutch.
Dont do anything, shes going to lay those eggs real soon by the sounds of things then.
its to late for a male now.
give her a nice sized ice cream tub 2/3 full of moist spagnum moss and you should have eggs in the very near future.

unfortunatly you can never tell, sometimes a female in fine health and the male the same may produce infertile eggs, but i would say that you have a good chance.
did the previous owner say if the origanal clutch was good or bad, maybe give them a ring and find out

I think I remember him saying that she laid around 16 good eggs.
So I hope she lays good eggs, if so this will be my third clutch of eggs this year( my first). I did put a male in with her a couple of weeks ago and it looked like they mated but there wasn't any "spillage" of sperm, so I not sure if she did.
Anyway thanks for all the help...

But also remember you dont always get or see sperm spilage.
