Hognose Snakes: The Book

Turtlequest Aug 19, 2005 11:00 PM

The only book specifically on hognoses that I could find is called Hognose Snakes by Adele D. Richardson. This is the biggest piece of garbage I have ever read. It has to be written for 10 year olds. The font is size 16 and the information is not even very helpful. For example, there is a picture in the book that has an arrow pointing to the snakes head that says head, along with one pointing towards the tail and "upwards nose". Thanks for clearing that up Adele. The rest of the book tells me the colors and what states hognoses live in.

Is there a book somewhere that actually pays homage to one of the greatest snakes ever? If not, I am going to compile what I learn over the next couple years and write my own.

Your post illustrates exactly my feelings on the paradox between the useless/incorrect information in most herp books, and the credible information found on the Internet!

I am not aware of any husbandry related books specific to hognoses, although there is a frequent visitor to this forum who has claimed to have one in progress.

I strongly encourage you to start compiling information that you found, I know more than anybody else on this forum that more information is needed! I have amassed a large collection of hognose literature and I plan on posting my references on my web site soon.
