Ok final set-up...let me know how this works

heffner2212 Aug 20, 2005 03:51 AM

Ok I have a 10 gallon tank in the closet. In the tank is a hide on each end. A water bowl in the middle. The cool side temps are right around 80. The hot side low 90's. The humidity is around 60%. There is a flood light hanging in the closet during the day which makes the ambient temps. At night when that switches off at night the ambients are around 77. When I first get my blood on tuesday I am going to measure her and everything then let her settle in for a few days. then offer her a mouse. After she eats for me Ill begin the taming process.....Let me know if everything sounds good. Ill kepp posting .
thanks alot
Mike

unless youre setting up some sort of herp obstacle course, then you only need one hide in the tank. take one out so it can have some room to move around. besides, if you have 2 hides and you put a mouse in, all its gonna do is run into the empty hide and stay there. if its a live one anyway.

with a cool side of 80 and a warm side of 90, you definately need two hides so the snake can thermoregulate AND feel secure. If you kept your temps at a solid 85 throughout the entire tank you'd only need one hide...

Blood pythons don't move around much anyway. They'd rather hide than excercise any day...

When you turn off the flood light do the temps stay at 80 on the cool end and 90 on the hot end? You want to keep those temps 24/7.

First of all, for a blood python, you need a lot larger than a 10 gallon tank. You would need at least a 50 to 60 gallon for when it grows to its adult size. And after your snake gets home, leave it for a few weeks before starting to tame it. The only contact you should have with your snake in the first few weeks is feeding, cleaning, and changing water, and misting. If you start handling it too soon, the snake could get very stressed. Good luck.
