Herpetological Definitions list

goini04 Aug 20, 2005 10:06 AM

Hey all,

I know this might be a bit of an odd request, but I was wondering if there are any specific (trusted) websites or any documentation that you can point me to that has the majority (or all) definitions of herpetological terms? Basically as some of you know, I am designing a website to help promote the responsible keeping of reptiles (particularly the more dangerous ones). What I am wanting to do is get permission from someone who has set up a dictionary of these terms and make a search dictionary on my website to help people understand these terms a bit more.

Does anyone happen to have any ideas? I would appreciate your input.

Thanks,

Chris

"Dictionary of Herpetology" by James Peters might be a good place to start. 392 pages, Published in 1964 by Hafner Publishing Company so it's dated.

in a lot of major city's many books but only as reference and not a check out situation. At least in the past. I got a lot of my info as a youngster from the Kansas City main library on the non-check out reference books and yes, they are probably all dated somewhat I guess.

Chris;
A useful reference from across the 'big pond' might be:

Wareham, David C. The Reptile and Amphibian Keeper's Dictionary (An A-Z of Herpetology). Blandford, London, UK 1993 248 pp. ISBN 0-7137-2318-1
According to the flyleaf, it's distributed in the U.S. by Sterling Pub. Co. Inc, New York NY.

Cheers

Wes

On the kingsnake main page there is a rotating link to different articles... yesterday it was about 3 croc care, sometimes it's about reptile pets for beginners, and occasionally a terminology paper comes up. It's pretty complete and updated. Keep an eye out for it
