New Pac Man owner

jenntreanor Aug 20, 2005 01:32 PM

Hi everyone. I have had a small (1 1/2in.)albino pac man for a week. He stays buried in the substrate most of the time. The day after I got him I put 5 large crickets in his tank, he ate two and has been buried ever since. I finally dug him out this morning and gave him two crickets, one he ate right away. Should I be worried about him staying buried all the time? And should I worry about him ingesting the substrate (bed a beast)it seems like he gets a mouthful when he trys to grab a cricket. Also is a temp of about 78 to 80 ok? Thanks in advance.

My albino pacman named Uma is three inches now and I have bed-a-beast for her too. It's a good substrate and I think they can digest it well, because mine swallows a ton of it too and never had a problem yet in the time I've had her (over a month). Pacman frogs bury, it's what they do so don't dig them out they get stressed out that way, if they are hungry then they should come out. Try to mix up the diet from crickets too. Worms are good. The temp is okay. Don't leave more than 10 crickets in overnight though because they will feast off of the back of your frog. I don't have to leave any in because mine eats them instantly. Yours will get used to being fed above ground after a while and probally learn to come out when hungry.

To avoid my pacman swallowing substrate I place mine on a clean plastic container lid ,(or you could use anything small and flat) whilst in his tank and feed him off that. That way he eats very little dirt. Works for him
