Shipping a Large Monitor

DrBossk Aug 20, 2005 01:59 PM

I am sending out a 5 foot large male BT next week. Can anyone provide a novice shipper with some advice? I want to make sure I do whatever I can to ensure the package is as secure and safe for the animal as possible. I have made a few calls to different carriers and all they give me is how illegal shipping an animal is. Well, I certainly can't drive the thing out there. Anyway, looking for some shipping advice on a 5 foot 20 lb lizard.

Thanks!

LOTS of styrofoam peanuts! Peanuts, and MORE peanuts. Never enough peanuts. =)

Ive had good luck with packing the critter in a dufflebag. Then placing that dufflebag into a box with holes and padded with PEANUTS. Then tanke that box and put it into a bigger box with holes, padded with more PEANUTS. The object of the game is to make sure lizzy inside, is comfy, and very secure. Depending on weather conditions, you have may have to supplement with cold/ heat packs. These do good placed inbetween the 2 boxes.

There are many variations to shipping. This one has worked for me.

I have looking for this kind of suggestion (shipping large water monitor) too. I am curious as to how to secure the duffle bag. Use tie-wrap???? Thanks.

If it has two zipper handels that come together, you can duct tape them to eachother, to prevent the lizard from getting it open. Im sure those zip-ties would be as good ideas well, threaded through the holes of the zipper handels. If you want, you can include a soft towel, or something similar to pad him inside the bag even more.

But, Dont forget the PEANUTS!
