Nice videos.where did you see those guys?

Excellent quality videos, especially if you are shooting in the 640 standard mode. I have had my Sony F828 for over a year now, and have tried movies in unusual modes (like macro mode movies), but I have never thought to make movies in total darkness with the nightframing mode! The IR frog video was monchromatic, but seeing as the Sony is recording in infrared, it's to be expected. Some people on this forum like to talk up their DSLRs, claming they are more flexible than a fixed lens camera, like the Sony F828. Well, let's see their DSLR take infrared videos! By the way, if you buy a Sony memory stick pro, a microdive CF card, or a CF card that is 80X speed, it will be fast enough to allow 640 fine mode on the video. Also, try taking a monopod with you when you go herping. It can collapse and be slung over your shoulder, to stay out of the way, but will steady your videos, and slow shutter speed shots if necessary. Lastly, I've tried the Putfile website, but my videos never play. I'm not sure why.

I agree with you completely about the Sony F828! There's no way I would have gotten that video of the green frogs if I had used visible light to record them.

You have definitely got me interested in a larger micro Drive. I saw a 6 GB micro Drive on sale for $200 in my area, but I could not remember what speed you recommended.

I can't explain why the web site will not work for you, I have not had any problems. I assume that you are using one of the excepted file extensions.

All microdrives are fast enough. All memory stick PRO memory sticks are fast enough. The problem with CF cards, is some say 12X, or 40X. It takes an 80X CF card (expensive) to write video data fast enough for the 640 fine mode. a 4 Gig CF Hitachi microdrive costs about $175, and allows 51 minutes of 640 fine video, or 999 8 meg photos. I got mine from Best Buys for $199 with a $30 mail in rebate. As for the putfile website, I ran my MPEG1 files through Windows Movie Maker, which turned them into .WMV files. I'll try posting .MPEG1 videos to see if it works.

Thanks for the primer on memory cards, I'll have to look up later on in the year when I get the $ for it. After I buy a flash and an Ewa-Marine case!

I use Move Maker as well, I don't know what to tell you. Send the links to me and I'll see if they run on my machine.

The f828 is flexible enough to take old hot shoe flashes. I got good results using a Canon 199A flash and used the hotshoe setting on the Sony. It is more difficult than the Sony flashes, though (you have to shoot aperture priority). I'm getting the Sony HVL-F32X flash.
