It is great to hear about yet another scenting method that works for Eastern hognoses! Although it does not surprise me given the diverse and vertebrate prey that have been documented in the stomach contents of eastern hognoses over the last 50 years, including grasshoppers, centipedes, and beetles. Who knows if they have been eating earthworms all along, they just don't last long enough in the stomach for people to find them.
In addition, at my last job we had a captive bred Eastern knows that would not only take unscented mice, but would gladly accept wax worms, crickets, and Mazuri brand reptile and amphibian gel (another hognose and our northern watersnakes would eat this as well).
