Our bearded dragon's toe nails look like they are too long and that it may be uncomfortable for him to walk. Can you trim their toe nails? Do they have a quick like dogs? We don't want to make him bleed. Any suggestions?

Yes to both your questions. Bearded dragon toenails can be trimmed and they do possesss a fleshy quick like dogs and other animals. You can trim them using cat nail clippers or small dog clippers (or very sharp human nail clippers). Just trim off the very tip, unless you can see the quick through the side of the dragons. If you do happen to cut into the quick, use baking soda to stop the bleeding or one of those septic (?) pens which are designed to help stop bleeding.

Hi,
Ditto to that. Trim off just the tip, and they tend to get squirmy when they're having their nails trimmed, or at least mine do, so have a very steady hand! Be sure to have the styptic
powder on hand, like Kwik Stop...you can usually find it at any pet store.
I always keep rough rocks in my tanks to help keep their nails filed, eliminating the need for most nail trimmings. They hate it, as do I, so it's win win.

I personally think human toenail clippers are the easiest. They are much smaller and easier to handle for beardies.
