New baby gecko, how old?

jammerz Aug 20, 2005 10:12 PM

Sorry, I don't have pics but its probably a simple answer. I was wonder how old my baby gecko is. She is a normal color and still has solid stripes. There may be the faintest hint of those stripes having spots in them. I am just looking for a range. I was guessing about 7-9 weeks. She is my first Leo. I am guessing she is a girl only because I read that most Leos in the pet trade are girls because of the incubation temps. Thanks.

Bands intact = young

I need a photo. I'd agree with your estimate though. A month or 2, perhaps?

And CAREFUL!! I've never purchased a pet store leo but I take in neglected/sick leopard geckos via my vet hospital, a 'nameless' pet store chain, and the humane society...My 4 latest rescues that are supposedly "pet store leos" (all from Petco I believe) happen to be THREE males and one female.

Pretty frustrating since I'd prefer to keep my "bachelor pad individual studio apartments" for the breeder males, not the adorable but space-consuming male rescue cases that are now healthy, happy little guys...I love them but I know I'll have 'em for years to come so I worry about running out of housing...

Thanks for the info. I don't plan on keeping more than 1 Leo. If it's a boy or girl I'm fine. I guess the girls just look a little prettier because as adults they are not so bulky at the head and neck. According to the pics I've seen online, she is healthy looking for her age. I saw some poor things at PetsMart that had tails like beardies. I got my girl at Petco. She happily gobbles up 6 or so crickets a day. I also leave a few mealworms in a dish just in case.

Well...it sounds like you've got one of the few leos that comes out of Pet-hell (oh, I mean "Petco" pretty healthy!

Also sounds like you're doing a great job. And just a "heads-up" -- I've had a few "late bloomers" that I though were females and turned out to be boys. Gotta keep an eye on them!!
