fire belly toads aren't brilliant green....

janome Aug 20, 2005 10:55 PM

like when you first get them at the store. i have 3 in a 15 gallon tank. they have water to swim around in then some big rocks and gravel on one side so they can get out of the water if they want.a couple of fake plants for cover. i use bottled spring water and the water is filtered with a little filter. i had some feeder fish in with them. only 2 left. they eat great...dusted/gut loaded crickets.

why do they turn dark?? they aren't brilliant green like when you first see them at the stores and say...'wow, aren't they a pretty green'...does any one know? would a light help? i dont have a light on the tank. they just get natural room light...(no the tank isn't setting in the sun.)
i would sure like them to be that pretty green again.

Maybe its because the rocks you have in your tank are too dark. fire belly toads tend to change their color to blend in with their environment.

Try some white or tan colored rocks or gravel.

i didn't think about that. then again i didn't know they can change their color to match the enviroment. i'll see what i can do. thanks.
