Do any of you guys keep venomous? If so, what?

wingert1 Aug 21, 2005 03:24 AM

Just currious. I used to keep a bunch, but none now. They are not for most people. I hope to be able to keep them again someday if circumstances allow. Hopefully I will meet the love of my life and she will want too. Very hard to find a girl into snakes let alone big vipers and cobras. I guess I could settle for a girl who was just into my balls.

They are easy to care for as far as set up and feeding but I would not recomend them. Finding antivenom would be very difficult and a bite from ANY venomous snake can be lethal or cause a lot of damage. If you ever get into hots it is best to start with something that is local like Copperheads. Even with them you will need lots of training. One good bite from any viper can be really bad. Think long and hard before jumping in and good luck.

I would love to eventually keep a Gaboon Viper. Alas, so much to learn and I think there are Internships that have to be done
Worth it in the long run if you ask me. If you dont mind waiting a while it could be very educational.

For now I will wait on my Pastel Hopefully he will arrive this coming Friday-the 26th, but knowing Murphy's Law he wont be here til' 09/02!
he is named after my Brother who was Murdered in the Iraq War 2 months ago this Monday I will post pics of "Sgt. Dupe" when he gets here (RDR Clutch #77)

I use to keep a Rattlesnake when I was a little younger. We had it devenomed for obvious reasons and in time we were able to handle it with extreme caution. Overtime it's temper also seemed to less with more and more human contact it had but I still wouldn't recommend that anyone try this unless they have experience with agressive snakes or preferbally. I myself have been catching them since I was younger with my dad. Texas is known for giving out people like us. :P

What guy DOESN'T want a girl who is into his balls?
(Sorry...the joke was there, had to make it...)

As for me, no venomous...and honestly, I can't see myself getting into them. I am too clumsy, and I would DEFINATELY get nailed by one. Since I value my limbs and life, I stay away.
