I need to vent

phishnuts Aug 21, 2005 07:43 AM

Every once in a while someone will have a box turtle kept in a trash can as a "pet" and I get them to give it to me. I sometimes pay $20 for a trophy sized bass then thro it back in the water. I always pay for any snapping turtle that I know is going to end up turtle soup.
being this kind of person makes me wonder why this time of year turtle dealers have lots of 10 of box turtles to sell. I am talking about adult box turtles.
I see the same guy trying to buy them on one site saying he wants them as pets and has lots of experience with them ,then he is selling them on another site. It is no wonder why the are endangered or threatened.

I know EXACTLY who you are talking about. He infuriates me. He likes to have box turtles around just to sell them later at 60, 70, 80 dollars as thinning out his colony. He's on several sites. Probably pays 20 for each one when he buys them in bulk. He is one of the worst enemies to box turtles. He could care less about them - All he thinks about is the "$" sign & nothing else. With people like that, box turtles are going to have a hard time surviving in the wild. I just hope everyone wakes up & DON'T BUY FROM HIM!

Ya'll have me curious too BUT I don't want to see any one break the TOS so please don't post people's names here. Please keep that type of thing in private emails.
Thanks!

I am not mentioning any names, but you can go to just about any box turtle classifieds on the net & just read who is selling box turtles. If you look long enough, you can see which name comes up constantly by yourself. The person is NOW looking to expand his collection because he likes them around (He ONLY likes them because he can sell them later to make money) so he is buying box turtles in groups of ten or more. A few weeks ago, he was thinning out his collection and selling breeding groups for way above a boxie should normally sell for. Adult Easterns should only go for max price of 30 - 40. He's was selling them for 60 or more! It's obvious the person is buying them in groups, so he can sell it for a higher price later. The person is just "turning" them over for the purpose of making 100% profit. He could care less about the the trauma they have to go through when being shipped. Just the almighty dollar.

I understand the need to vent about that!

Everytime you do mention a name it gets deleted before anyone can read it. The person does not come to this forum.
